Booted Eagle Aquila pennatus (formerly Hieraaetus pennatus)
A southern European species which is extremely rare in the UK. The first accepted record in the UK related to an individual that was seen at several locations between March 1999 and June 2000, but although this record was considered by many observers as relating to a wild bird, the BOU have only accepted it in category D, in other words they consider that there is reasonable doubt that it has occurred in a natural state.
