Merlin Falco columbarius
A winter visitor to Norfolk, mainly seen at marshes close to the coast.
British Merlins belong to the subspecies aesalon and/or subaesalon. The species also occurs in North America where three more races occur. The bird in the following photo probably belongs to the nominate race columbarius (called Taiga Merlin), darker than British birds.
